Zambia seeks consultants for multi-purpose dam development project planning

The government of Zambia invites expressions of interest from consultants to consolidate and update the nation’s water resources infrastructure development plan including development of multi-purpose dam projects. Responses are due February 15.

With funding from the World Bank, the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Water Development seeks services under the Zambia Water Resources Development Project. The government recruited consultants in 2011 to provide engineering supervision for construction of Kanakantapa Dam on the Kanakantapa River.

Multi-purpose projects often include a hydropower component. Zambian President Michael Sata last year directed state-owned Zambia Electricity Supply Corp. Ltd. to increase its hydropower development.

The ministry said it seeks a consultant to consolidate and update all of Zambia’s water resources development plans including a 1995 Dam Development Plan contained in the Study of the National Water Master Plan for Zambia. The consultant is to identify priority multi-purpose infrastructure investments and conduct preparatory studies for a pipeline of single and multi-purpose medium and large-scale water resource investments.

Expressions of interest are due February 15 in the tender box at the address below or by e-mail to the address below.
